Two days through Azerbaijan's wine country and into the forested foothills around Gabala — the gentlest of the multi-day itineraries, and the one most people find the most relaxing.
The route west from Baku begins at Shamakhi, the ancient capital of the Shirvan state, where the Juma Mosque has occupied the same site since 743 CE. The surrounding hills are the country's principal wine-growing region, and a winery stop with tastings is built into the day.
Beyond Shamakhi the landscape changes into beech forest. Gabala brings the Tufandag cable car climbing from the town into alpine meadow, Nohur Lake with its bare trunks standing in still water, and — when levels allow — the seven waterfalls walk.

Frequently asked questions
Is wine tasting included in the price?
The winery visit is part of the route, but tastings and any purchases are paid at the winery. Tell us when booking so we can arrange the visit in advance — some wineries require notice.
Are the seven waterfalls always accessible?
No — the walk depends on water levels and conditions, so it is seasonal. Your driver will know on the day whether it is worth doing, and there are good alternatives around Gabala if not.
What is the best season for this tour?
September and October, for the grape harvest around Shamakhi and the autumn colour in the Gabala forest. Late spring is the next best window.
